Mercer CDF! C. E. Sammans Commanding Officer Attack Squadron Eighty-Two is based at NAS Cecil Field, Florida, the East Coast home of light attack aviation. Its 21 officers and 208 enlisted men fly and maintain the sophisticated A-7E Corsair ll, a sturdy, single engine, single seat attack bomber. With a com- puterized navigation and weapons delivery system, the A-7E can perform a great variety of missions and accurately deliver practically every weapon in the airborne ordinance arsenal. Com- missioned in 1967, VA-82 is a veteran of several previous WestPac and Mediterranean cruises aboard the at- tack carriers USS AMERICA and USS CORAL SEA. As Plankowners the Marauders have enjoyed a very busy and productive relationship on NIMITZ, which contributed to VA-82's selection by the Chief of Naval Operations as the winner of the coveted Admiral C. Wade McClusky Award as the top attack squadron in the Navy for 1976. VA-82 was also selected for the COM- NAVAIRLANT Light Attack Battle Ef- ficiency Award for 1976.
