Commander Ronald F. Moreau ' U.S. Navy Commander Ronald F. MOREAU was born on 21 May 1934, in Orange, New Jersey. While attending Upsala College he joined the Reserve Officer Candidate QROC1 pro- gram, and upon graduation in 1957 was commissioned an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. He commenced flight training at Pensacola, Florida, in June 1957, and received his wings in November 1958. ln January 1959 he reported to VU-10 at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he served as Communications and Flight Officers. During this time Commander Moreau flew the JD, the SNB, and the FJ-3M aircraft. In October 1960, he reported to VA-44 at NAS Jacksonville, for replacement pilot training in the A-4 Skyhawk , While attached to VA-44, Commander Moreau was selected for augmentation into the regular Navy. Upon completion of this training he reported to VA-12 where he made two Mediterranean crusies and served as the squadron Avionics Division Officer and the Weapons Training Officer. In May 1963 Commander Moreau reported to VA-44 as an instructor pilot, and served as the Aviation Safety Officer and NATOPS Evaluator. The next assignment for Commander Moreau was VA-15, flying 200 combat missions in A-4 aircraft during two successive cruises to Southeast Asia. In February 1968 he reported to VA-45 for a short tour prior to reporting to the Naval War College at Newport, Rhode Island. Commander Moreau then reported to the Staff of Commander United States SIXTH Fleet, homeported in Gaeta, Italy, serving as the Strike Warfare Officer. In September 1971 he reported to VA-174, and served as Executive Officer of that command from June 1972 until reporting to VA-105 in May 1973. Commander Moreau served as Commanding Officer of VA-105 from July 1974 until November 1975. Commander Moreau has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, two individual Air Medals, eighteen Strike!FIight Air Medals, three awards of the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with gold star, and the Vietnamese Service Medal. 179
