VA -3 Attack Squadron THIRTY-FIVE was originally commissioned as Bombing Squadron THREE at NAS Norfolk, Va., on I fuly 1934. This early start makes the Black Panthers the oldest attack squadron in the Navy and the third oldest carrier squadron. As Bombing Squadron THREE during World War II, the Panthers were embarked in USS SARATOGA, USS ENTERPRISE, CDR R. P. HYDE USN CDR D. K. BR YANS, USN and both USS YORKTOWNS.
