Commander john H. Fetterman, jr, Com- mander Carrier Air Wing EIGHT, sonpof Mr, and Mrs. fohn H. Fetterman of York, Pennsylvania, graduated from Butler Township High Schgol and attended Susquehanna University and Albright College where he participated in varsity sports, Following graduation from Albright College in 1954, Commander Fetterman attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, was commissioned an Ensign in 1955, and designated as a Naval Aviator in 1956. Commander Fetermanls first operational tour was with Attach Squadron ONE HUNDRED FIVE at Cecil Field, Florida. Flying AIH Shy- raiders from the deck of the USS ESSEX in the and Fleets, C0mmandgr Fetterman participated in both the Lebanon and Formosa Crises. In October 1958, Commander Fetterman re- ported to Fleet Airborne Electronics Training Unit, Atlantic, where he served as Light Attack Nuclear Weapons Training Instructor. Following this tour, Commander Fetterman reported to Attack Squadron FORTY FOUR for A4 replace- ment pilot training prior to joining the staff of Commander Carrier Air Wing EIGHT. During this tour he served as Administrative Officer, Weapons Officer and Operations Officer. Following tours at the Naval War College and Attack Squadron FOR TY FOUR, Commander Fetterman reported to Attach Squadron EIGHTY ONE aboard USS SHANGRI LA where he served as Maintenance Officer during two Mediterranean deployments. A tour in Attack Squadron ONE HUNDRED SE VENTY FOUR as an A7 Flight Instructor was followed by orders to Attack Squadron EIGHTY SEVEN as Executive Officer. In March 1972, Commander Fetterman assumed command of Attack Squadron EIGHTY SEVEN7s Golden Warriorsw. During his command tour, Commander Fetterman was selected as team leader of a joint U.S. Navy and Air Force, Air-to-Ground Team which represented the United States in NA TO competition. Prior to reporting for duty as Commander of Carrier Air Wing EIGHT, Commander Fetterman served as Assistant Director of the Navy Senate Liaison Officer in the Office of Legislative Affairs. Commander Fetterman is a graduate of the Naval Command and Staff College and has amassed over 800 carrier landings and over 4100 jet hours. z w'4W ' Commander John H Fetterman, USN Commander Carrier Air Wing Eight 20

The primary mission ofAttac1c Carrier Air Wing EIGHT is to conduct and coordinate offensive air operations, engaging in attacks on air, surface and sub-surface targets which threaten control ofthe sea, and to conduct air operations in support of other forces as directed. CVW-8 assets include Attack Squadron 83, Attach Squadron 86, Attack Squadron 35, Fighter Squadron 74, Marine Fighter- Attach Squadron 333, Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 2, Detachment 2, Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 130, Re- connaissance Attach Squadron 9, and Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron' 116. n 'm U 1, H s Y I. wi 205
