HILT Chief Engineer The Engineering Department consists of approximately 600 personnel from the various engineering ratings and yeomen under the leader- ship of the Engineer Officer fChief Engineer, Chief Snipe, Eng.j The Engineer Officer is responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of a myriad of assigned equipment and various evolutions, ranging from having NlMlTZ,s main propulsion plants ready to re- spond to the Captain's desires for speed and maneuvering to insuring there is steam in the galleys and laundry to prepare food and heep the clothes clean for the crew. He is assisted in specific areas by fourprinciple assistants: Main Propulsion Assistant fMPAj, Damage Control Assistant fDCAj, Electircal Assistant fEAj and Auxiliaries Assistant KAAQ. These principal assistants oversee the operation and adminis- tration ofthe five divisions in the department: Auxiliaries KA Divisionj, Electrical KE-I and E-2 Divisionsj, Mechanical KM Divisionj and Repair KR Divisionj.
