Concerts Highlight 1969-70 Headed by department chairman Hugh McGee, the Music Department com¬ pleted a successful year in 1969 - 70 . Concerts highlighted the efforts of staff members, who sought to bring music into community life. Students per¬ formed in the Christmas Festival, the Choir and Orchestra Concerts, the Band Concert, and May Festival. 27

Creativity Emphasized in Art Students Creativity was encouraged as art students had their work displayed almost continuously in West s faculty lounge and student cafeteria. Various media of art were experimented with as exhibits were also set up for Open House and PTA meetings. Some students had their work in the field of art culminate in participation at the Scholastic Art Awards contest sponsored by Wieboldt ' s in Evanston. Media areas includ¬ ed in the contest were pencil, pen and ink, and ceramics. A complete student exhibit was set up in the spring. Putting the finishing touches on a masterpiece is hard work. Mr. Frank Fitzpatrick Mrs. Josephine Hentz Mr. Charles Burdeen Vocational Skills Stressed in Work Study To prepare students for the practical business world, West ' s Co-operative Work Training Program was expanded this year. Students attended all morn¬ ing classes and worked under department supervi¬ sion at various jobs in the afternoon. Although no new courses were offered, several were in the think¬ ing stage according to department head Frank Fitzpatrick. He hoped that next year the department would offer a two semester course in data processing and independent study in accounting. Mrs. Joanne Brownell Mr. Daryle Hari Mr. Michael Broggi Mrs. Dorothy Wise Miss Elizabeth Begley Mr. Kenneth Drum Business Ed students learn typing skills for practical use.
