OUR WALLS'S AGA1982 Saga 1982 is a tribute to our school, Niles North. Within our walls students have lived, learned, created, participated, and striven for seventeen years. These walls were constructed in 1965 in order to educate Skokie's large youth population Now Skokie is experiencing a decline in its population of youth, and the future of our building is not certain. Many changes have occured during this past year. The Solidarity move- ment rose in Poland, insurrection raged in El Salvador, and we found ourselves faced with a recession as Reagan forged ahead with his New Federalism. Through all of these changes, our building has provided us with a certain stability as we furthered our education one more year All kinds of people are found at Niles North. We are all quite different from each other. We are a group of varied races and religions. Each person holds different interests. Each person takes part in different activities. Each person has differnt strong areas and weak areas. Yet the walls of Niles North have bound us together. When Niles North erected new walls around the cafeteria this year, many of us responded with disapproval. Often walls seem to be symbols of separation and isolation. But at Niles North wails isolate an environment in which ideas are allowed to develop and minds are allowed to grow. Inside Niles North's walls students have responded to various situations in various ways. The next ten pages illustrate several of these ways.
