September 3, 1980. concluded the twelve- week summer vacation and started the first day of the 1980-81 school year. At 8:00 a.m. Niles North students sat In their AAA's talking to old friends they hadn't seen all summer, and looking over the new kids from their once sister school. Niles East. Later Inside Niles North's H-shaped building, controver- sies arose over the abolishment of the smok- ing lounge and the drug problem. Outside Niles North. Ronald Reagan won the presiden- tial election. Steve McQueen died of a heart attack. John Lennon was shot and killed, the hostages were finally released after 444 days of captivity, prices kept rising, and Skokie made it's debut In a T.V. film. Through out all this the earth did not stop rotating, and Niles North students continued to do their own thing whether It meant playing on a team, acting in a show, studying from dawn 'till dusk, or partying with friends.
