To be a good citizen tomorrow one must build to be a better citizen today. As we pro¬ gress in social studies from the freshman to the senior level, we are made aware of our relationship to the social groups of which we are a part. We learn that it is our responsibility to main¬ tain Nilehi ' s traditions and good reputation. We become acquainted with our community, the services offered, and the protection pro¬ vided through laws passed for the good of the many. We study the state and federal govern¬ ment and trace the development of our coun¬ try with its heritage of freedom and equal rights. Finally, through the study of the history of other countries, we achieve a better under¬ standing of the world in which we live. Through the study of science, we gain an appreciation of man ' s ageless struggl e for truth by increas¬ ing our understanding of the complexity of ele¬ ments found in nature and of the order of the universe. In addition, the scientific method, applied in laboratory and classroom courses, develops our reasoning powers and prepares us to think clearly about personal and business problems.
