MILDRED E. TESS President Skokie MACK D. FALKNOR Morton Grove CHARLES N. MILLER Lincolnwood PETER KLUESING Niles IVAN PAROUBEK Skokie A MESSAGE TO THE GRADUATES: To you graduates of 1943, for whom par¬ ticularly this annual has been prepared, the Board of Education offers its congratulations. You have the honor of being the first class to spend four full years in the new building, and to that distinction you have added com¬ mendable citizenship and scholarship. You are also the first class to graduate from Niles Township High School fully aware of the immediate responsibilities awaiting you, the youth of a great country now geared to its second year of war. For your important part in this worldwide conflict , you have been pre¬ paring diligently both in regular and special classes. Now, with keener minds, stronger bodies, more practical skills, greater apprecia¬ tion of cultural values, and a more serious outlook, you are ready for new duties and privileges. Some of you will go directly into the armed forces of our country ; others plan to work in essential industries ; still others will find it possible both to serve their country and to go to college. Whatever your new work may be, the Board trusts that you will find your prepa¬ ration for it adequate; that you will bring to it the kind of loyalty and dependable service that you have given your high school for four years ; and that you will continue to be a credit to your school, your community. and your country. BIEHN, A.B., M.A., Ph.D. Superintendent-Principal To serve youth is man ' s great priv¬ ilege, second only to the privilege of serving his Creator and his country; to serve the boys and girls of Niles Town¬ ship is no exception. Each student at N.T.H.S. has been an inspiration or a challenge. Your varied interests, per¬ sonalities, and aptitudes would tax the imagination of even those who would pose as having an understanding of youth. Such is a wholesome condition and I commend you for it. Our school is evidence of the interest that the citizens of this community have in you. Through their sacrifices and the efforts of the Board of Education you have been provided with a high school which is equal to the best in the country, and you have shown by your actions that you are grateful to them. This has not been an ordinary year. We could not, even if we had desired, have carried on as usual. In our effort to adapt the program at N.T.H.S, to the interests, needs, and abilities of the in¬ dividuals, and to the needs of the na¬ tion, we sought to make your experi¬ ences here worthwhile. If we have suc¬ ceeded, our efforts will be rewarded by the kind of citizens that will be so des¬ perately needed in the reconstruction period to follow the present world struggle. I am as thoroughly convinced that the youth of today will win the post-war struggle as I am that the youth of yesterday will win the war itself. With healthy bodies, sound minds, and divine guidance we shall not fail. A. L. Biehn Superintendent j 5
