DEDICATION WMM Xxx, We would l1ke to dedlcate th1s years book to a man who has served N1les Hlgh School for forty one years Thrs man IS Leland Walker Mr Walker was born 1n Gobles Mlchlgan 1n 1894 Early rn hrs llfe hlS famrly moved to Ill1no1s where he attended grade school 1n Waukegan Ill1no1s If you ever ask Mr Walker how old he IS he w11l probably tell you thrrty mne You see he and Jack Benny were 1n the same thrrd grade' Mr Walker graduated from Hlgh School 1n Hlghland Park Ill1no1s He obtarned a Bachelor of Scrence Degree from Kalamazoo College and later a Master of At Kalamazoo College and 1n Hrgh School he was a good football and track man He played every mrnute of every football game whlle he was on the school squads Mr Walker was always a good runner Just ask hrs wrfel After College he taught for a year and a half rn Wyandotte Mlchlgan Here IS where Mr and Mrs Walker met He went from there to Detroit where he taught IH a YMCA School for SIX months He then entered the Naval Re serve durmg World War I Mrs Walker out ran Mr Walker at thrs trme they were marrled wh1le he was 1n the Naval Reserve After the Navy he taught at Rrchmond Indlana for one semester In 1919 Mr Walker came to N1les where he has been ever srnce He came here as THE coach and athletrc drrector He coached everythrng from one season to the next and also taught both boys and grrls gym and hygrene In 1925 he started teachmg mathematlcs and IS st1ll 1n that department Now he 1S the head of th1s department and IS one of the most popular teachers on school He heads both TATTLER staffs and attends as many of the Nlles Hrgh School sponsored act1v1t1es as he possrbly can The Walkers have SIX chlldren four glrls and two boys and fourteen grandchrldren seven up Whether we be cogs or cubes we want you to know how much we appreclate your help through the years Mr Walker May your years be many and happy ones' I' 11 ' Q 1' ' I I I S 1 ff ,, ., .V 4 , , . Scenes O the Past . . In 1923 William Matthews started the first band in Niles H. S. In 1926 L. S. Walker came out with his first moustache. In 1927 Clarence Moore debated with Lorna Eager. Now as man and wife they debate every day. In 1929 Russell Gebby started teaching in Niles. In 1931 Art Mould graduated. In 1932 Joe Hess, Plym Park Golf Pro. grad- uated.
