THIS IS YOUR LIFE XVe dedicate the l956 TATTLER to you, Mr. Zabel, in appreciation for the dedicated service, keen understanding, and stimulating interest you have shown the students of Niles High School. You came to NHS a graduate from the Uni- versity of Michigan, where you received your A.B. and A.M. degrees. In the three years you were a mathematics teacher, you found time to manage the athletics, school plays, and the TATTLER. You then became the principal of the junior High School. In the next ten years you successively became the Senior High School principal and the principal of both the junior and senior high schools, a position you have loyally maintained with dignity and respect the last twenty-four years. Every school activity of students and teachers welcomes your expected attendance because you are genuinely interested and helpful. Especially, in athletics have you been the Niles High School number one fan. At nearly every sports event you have been in attendance. Not only have you been the manager of the yearly District Basket- ball Tournament since its inception in 1926, but also you have been past president of the former Big Seven Athletic Conference. Your interests and influence have not been limited just to the school and your profession, but they have been evident also in the social, religious, and business activities of the city ol Niles. You are an honored and active member of the Michigan Education Association, Mich- igan Secondary School Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals, Michigan Schoolmasters' Club, and the National Education Association as well as a member ol the Presbyterian Church, a member and past president of the Niles Lions Club, and Director of Niles Federal Savings and Loan Association, Now the new high school is built, and as its principal we know that your duties will be carried through with the same efficiency and loyal devotion as they have in the past. N r-- Mr. Zabel is always willing to take time to help us solve our problems. hfs ri 2 Q31 - ' Q , , I Q11-
