Niles High School Niles, Michigan May 25, 1955 Dear Jane, Graduation is almost here. I ' ve been looking over some old yearbooks and school papers which brought back many memories. In our freshman year we became big shots in Jr. High. Diane Healy and Tim Tyler reigned over the Prom, the first formal dance for most of us. Bette Warnke and Diane Healy were our cheerleaders. Charlie Thomas, Tim Tyler, and Warren Marazita ruled the Student Council as president, vice-president, and treasurer respectively. Our sophomore year brought more changes as we entered Sr. High. Some of the boys qualified for varsity sports, and other members of the class be- came members of the choir, glee clubs, Sr. Band, or other student organiza- tions. This was the first year we were permitted to attend the Jr.-Sr. Prom. Sue Harrison, Mary Wellingham, and Bette Warnke were elected cheer- leaders. Our junior year began with the ordering of our class rings. Everyone was proud of them! We elected class officers with Bob Coates as president, War- ren Marazita, vice-president; Diane Healy, secretary; and Sue Harrison, treasurer. Our Jr. Class Play was Cheaper by the Dozen with Lois Stickney and John Wade playing the leads. Included in the cast were: Jim Roy, Bar- bara Brown, Sue Harrison, Mary Wellingham, Jackie Forbes, Dove Shannon, Tim Tyler, Jim Snyder, Karen Hunziker, Kay Homer, Don Pethick, Valerie Cook, John Rasmussen, Pat White, Margie Shook, Don Snyder, and Pat Ellis. We planned the Jr.-Sr. Prom and banquet, and chose April in Paris as the theme, carried out under the supervision of Marlene Boulton as chair- man of decorations. lKj At last we became Seniors! Our final year found Tim Tyler, Dove Shannon, Mary Wellingham, and Larry Hall as officers. The year began with Cleo Cray as Homecoming Queen and in her court, Shirley Acton and Janice Hickox. The New Moon was enlarged under the editorship of Sue Harrison. Mary Wellingham proved a very capable chairman of Homecoming. Next came the Snowball under the direction of Jo Rice. The Variety Show was a smash- ing success with its setting in New York City. In the latter part of March came the Gym Show with the Seniors winning the Jr.-Sr. Competition. The Band Bounce followed with Sue Harrison, Diane Healy, and Karen Hunziker as Melody Queen finalists. The Sr. Play was a comedy entitled Time Out for Ginger. The cast included Dave Shannon, Sue Harrison, Jim Roy, Tim Tyler, John Wade, Cecilia Armstrong, Stella Reed, Paula Hemphill, and George Foster. Competing with two hundred girls, Suzie Harrison was chosen for the first place award by the D.A.R. Mr. Zabel announced that Suzie Har- rison and Chariene Dreher were our two top students. Closing the year was the Prom. It was fun to have all the work done for us. Soon we ' ll receive our diplomas; and our high school days will be over, although we ' ll never forget them. Your friend, Mary 18
