225 It is with sincere pleasure that we, the Senior Class of 1939, dedicate our Tattler to Leland S. Walker, principal senior advisor and head of the mathematics department. In 1919, Mr. Walker came to Niles after serving in the Army during the World War. He came as the first Physical Education director in Niles High School and he organized Niles' first Gym Show in the spring of 1920. In 1922 and 1923 his basketball team took the State Championship and in 1925 his track team was also a State champion, proving his success as a coach. In 1925, Mr. Walker discontinued his duties as coach and became director of the mathematics department. I the spring of 1926 he accepted the management of the financial division of the i autor. His personality radiates through his cooperative connections with pupils. His interest in students is illustrated by his helpfulness with every type of problem and advice in developing a well-rounded character. We truly appreciate such a teacher and we wish to commend his excellent work.
