A M as a memorrll to John A Nichols Crmd Mastel of the C land Lodge of Masons m North Carolina in 1872 Bi his xote the Oxforfl Orphanage was established Since 1931 this school has been a part of thc Oxford City System with 'Hr C G Credle as Superintendent All grades beginning with th first continuing through the twelfth attend school in this building The total emollment for 1943 1944 is 411 and of this number 110 are town pupils The school has been under the leadership of was the first principal and wx as succeeded by M Dennis H Cooke now Dr Dennls H Cooke of Feorge Peabody College 'Nlashxllle Tennessec who xx is pr1nc1pal in 1926 1928 Beginning in 1928 'Vlr D b Johnson became principal and re signed in the summer of 1943 after rendering fifteen years of xaluable service not onlx to the school but also to the Orphanage The school was xerx fortunxte m haxing one of its own facultx members Mr E T Regan fullv capable of pei forming the duties of principal and at the same time remaining as director of 3thl9tlCS conse quentlx he vsas elected to succeed Mr Johnson -------.....----..----,....-- J ' v 1 ' 1 , . .
