Gunners Mates and Fire Control Technicians prepare, main- tain, and operate all the equipment necesv sary for a shoot. And shoot they did. On this cruise H00 rounds were expended in nine days of gun-line action in the off- shore waters of Viet Nam. Shore bombard- ment was a small part of this year's de- ployment, however. For nearly two months Second Division personnel stood ready by their gear while the ship steamed North SAR watching for suspicious North Viet- namese activity. Gunners exercised the mounts, while FT's ran T-checks between the computer, stable element, mounts, and director. Speaking of the director, the old Iron Lady did some mighty Fine tracking with her radar. lt's important to be alert and set. Chalk ulp another great year For Second Division.
