A memorable occasion during the past year was the mass polio innoculation. Memorable not only because we now had protection against polio but also because Cas some students so aptly put ith that hurt! Here a long line of students wait at the Summersville Grade School for their first shot. Serving approximately 800 Nicholas-' County High School students are l6 buses. Many of the students ride long dis- tances, some of the longer include: Mt. Lookout which is a distance of 16 miles, Dille, a distance of 28 miles, and Dixie and Vaughan, 32 miles away. They are manned by courteous, competent drivers whose business is to get students to school safely and on time. Here the buses are ready to go and wait for the final afternoon bell. Class tournament days are happy days. Last year it was a happy class of Juniors that cheered their teams to a sweep of the tournament. In the picture to the left Ronald Sweeney, left, and Tom Dotson beat out a rhythm on the drums as Nora Foster fbeside Ronaldl displays her usual amount of enthusiasm. The Homecoming during the past year was the most important of our high school career because the queen was our class 'member for the first time. Many hours of work went into the building and decoration of the float. Patty Waggoner, inside and on top the cab of the truck pulls napkins through the wire as Nina Lilly and Howard Keenan hand them to her. Um School Year During the World Series last fall many ears were glued to the inter-com at noon. To the left is a typical scene. Roger Hanna, David McCue, Edward Grose, Joe Summers, and Mike Bays give them their utmost attention to every word. Who will it be, boys - Yanks or Dodgers?

Classes change and the boys begin the climb up the hill while Coach Gladwell heads for the gate to have that between class cigarette. While Greta McClung, right, sits in class, Wanda and Violet Martin invade the Home Ec. department to make preparations for a party. ln The Spotlight King Herod, portrayed by Roscoe Dillon commands the Wise Men, Carlos Rapp and Harold Thompson, to arise and hunt for the baby Jesus. His wife, Janet Champe, sits behind him in one of the scenes from The Christmas Story, presented by the Band, F. T. A., and Thespians. Coach Burruss takes time out from his duties at the gym to serve on lunch hall duty and catch up on the latest news. Or maybe he's iust hiding behind the magazine. We all know that our school is crowded but we didn't know it was so crowded that any student would have to use the basement floor for a desk. Obviously we were wrong, as proved by Gary Stout. 5
