Education, while often forced upon us, is best received with open arms. And while being members of a University includes accepting the respon- sibility of certain requirements, it is up to that University to recognize the needs of its students and fulfill them. This can only be done while constantly looking to change. As our fields of study grow, so must our examination of them. New departments must be added as the demand presents itself Qwitness the fairly recent addition of the Computer and Communication Studies programsj while existing ones must con- stantly be reinforced. The continuingly high reputation of the Niagara Nursing Department is an example of the latter. However important it is to remain strong in major fields of study, the University must also allow room for personal academic growth. Recognizing the need for a broad-based education, we've seen the loosening of the philosophy requirement and creation of a University Studies program. With a greater number of courses from which to choose the student will have more control over the education he receives. The continued use of the most advanced educational facilities can only help improve the education that is offered. By committing them- selves to such a program, Niagara University has recognized its respon- sibility to keep pace with the times. Included in this is the rebirth of the Placement Office, helping Niagara students ease into life after graduation. By loosening some established academic requirements, the Univer- sity is allowing the students the necessary room to expand their horizons. By no longer being boxed in by some time-held educational traditions, Niagara students are moving closer to the goal of a more open and fulfilling education. Dean Kloss
