Accounting The Accounting program seeks to assist students develop through study, a balanced perspective and the skills which can prepare them for careers in the accounting profession, including public accounting, private industry, government, and education. The program provides a balance of professional and cultural courses, and is registered with the New York State Education Department, thus qualifying graduates of the department to sit for the CPA ex- arn. The Accounting department has 10 full-time faculty members. Many extra-curricular academic and social ac- tivities are provided such as tutoring workshops, Ac- counting Club, internships, and part-time employ- ment to broaden the students' perspectives and pro- vide contact with the accounting profession. Computer Education The purpose of the program is to show the student what a powerful tool Computing is and learn how to use it. To in- crease the use of the Com- puter as a tool for practical applications in the area of problem solving, in the Arts, Business, Sciences, and Mathematics. This is done through the elements of Prob- lem Solving using BASIC and FORTRAN programming lan- guages and Computer Tune- sharing Terminals. F. Hayes, Coordinator,,I. Zika,J. Thorpe. 18 Mathematics The Department of Mathematics seeks to transmit mathematical knowledge and the application of this knowledge to the students. The Department focuses its atten- tion on the individual student and endeavors to guide him in developing intellectual curiosity, precision of thought and logical reasoning, as well as increasing intuitive thought, creativity and independent thinking in the field of mathematics.
