A number of years ago, there was a popular song entitled Memories Are Made of This. . . This song made the point that though many things may come and go in our lives, though we may all experience countless changes in the world and within ourselves, there are some things that will remain a part of us forever and never change -the memories that we carry with us always. Many of the memories that you have of Niagara University are pictured in the pages of this book. As you persue this 1978 edition of The Niagaran, you will be reminded again of the events of this year from Orientation Week to Senior Week, from Fall Weekend to Spring Weekend, from registra- tion to examinations. The pictures printed here will keep alive the fond memories you have of so many persons and events that formed part of your Niagara experience. In the years ahead, when you study these pages again, perhaps the passage of tune will make it dif- ficult to recall all of the names and many of the details connected with these events. But one thing I hope will never fail is your memory of Niagara University as a community of people who cared for Very Rev. Gerard M. Mahoney, C.M. President 12 each other, the recollection of Niagara as an educa- tional institution where the roots of successful future careers were planted and nourished, the remembrance of Niagara as a Christian community where the love of God was central to life and gave new meaning to all of life's experiences. What the future holds for any person is a mystery to each and everyone of us. We all know from our past experiences that the passage of time often changes perspective, heals wounds, and gives new understanding to other dimensions of life, time of- fers many new opportunities to those who seek them with hope and fidelity. As we go forward to meet the uncertainties of the future, it is my fervent prayer that the values presented and acquired at Niagara University will ever influence and guide us all in whatever lies ahead. May the memories of Niagara, its people and its programs, be a continual inspiration to the lives of everyone. Gerard M. Mahoney, C.M.
