Program Description Within the Graphic Arts field there are many career choices. This field is continually changing and grow- ing because of rapid technological changes taking place. There is indeed a challenging opportunity for those who choose any of the many rewarding profes- sions within this vast industry. At Niagara College our program is divided intofour separate courses: Art and Camera Copy Preparation, Typesetting, Process Photography and Offset Print- ing including related subjects such as Copywriting, Proofreading and Bindery. The first year ' s two semesters include all of the four main courses to provide the student with a basic working knowledge of each of these skills. The students will learn the many different pro- cesses used in the production of printed material, from the development of the original idea through the Art, Copy and Assembly stages including Typeset- ting, to the Camera Film assembly, Platemaking and on to the printed reproduction. In the second year during the two semesters the student will devote studies to only two of the four skill areas. This concentration intotwoof thefourcourses together with the knowledge acquired in the first two semesters will prepare the graduate to be more flexi- ble in seeking suitable employment in a complex and competitive market.

I am a resident of Niagara Falls and a graduate of Stam- ford Collegiate Vocational Institute, upon where I was a member of the Football Team and also an active member of Alpha Kappa Gamma Sigma Fraternity. Some of my inter- ests include sketching, hockey, skiing, football, and music. While attending Stamford I was enrolled in the art pro- gram and enjoyed it very much, so much so that I was inspired by it, and decided I wanted to further my educa- tion in some sort of art field. It was then suggested I look into Graphic Arts, I did so and found it looked interesting and promising for future employment. For me, taking Graphic Arts at Niagara proved to be a wise decision not only because of the course, but I have also made many new friends. I enjoyed my first year very much and decided in my second year to major in Art and Offset Printing. I am mainly interested in the Art Program and plan to seek employment in graphic design or layout work.
