“YEARBOOK DRAFT A. P. McINTEE Dean, School of Business This is a report to our stockholders - to graduates, to the business community, to prospective students - on the year that was. It was a good year. Maybe our best year. It was certainly the most gratifying year from the standpoint of problems faced, opportunities taken and new acquaintences made. We started the year with a challenging assignment: an enviable placement record of past graduates and a reputation among colleges as innovators in the task of provid- ing relevant business education experience. We met the challenge head on. We are not unhappy with the results. The philosophy of the School of Business remained constant: to meet changes in the world of business with change in, our methods of working with those young people preparing to become part of their community ' s business world. As a result, new programs were studied. New techniques evolved. Our unique open classroom concept providing practical experience became, if anything, more open. Labs were introduced to additional business courses. Our services were made available to an evei widening audience both within and without the college. Projects took our students to every part of the community; into businesses, into the marketplace, and into a variety of profes- sional and educational organizations. Data Processing students worked with the Junior OHA on a system of computerized statistics. Marketing students, at the request of various sponsors, conducted field trips surveys on a variety of topics. Hotel and Food Services Management trainees became a factor in the area ' s world of hospitality and leisure activities. Financial Manage- ment students completed a transportation feasability study involving the problems encountered by commuting students. Advertising students raced national advertisers in working out plans, objectives and strategies on new consumer products. Secretarial students undertook and completed meaningful bvisiness projects. On any given day classes included visiting biasinessmen and graduates giving their time, sharing experiences, providing new information. At the end of the school year, in a tightening job market, many positions were available for the School of Busi- ness graduate. Many opted to continue their education, planning to go on with further formal programs or travelling in Canada and the rest of the world. We wish all God-speed. The staff is proud to have been of some help to all the young people on their way up. To have been a part of this critical time of their lives. We feel the ones who have left us are the kind of people we would like to do busi- ness with. We have a high standard to maintain and we wouldn ' t have it any other way. 23
