Mr William D. Geer, Ir., Principal l Miss Sweeney, Assistant Principal Each year the editors of Regulus attempt to capture and to chronicle three years of the lives of some five hundred plus students who make up the graduating class of Newton South. Despite the clear success of the editors of this and all other past yearbooks, something intangible is always missing from this record of school and from the formal graduation ceremonies that take place in June. By the time this book is in print, and the Class of 1968 has escaped into the swirl of symposium, the prom and graduation, the most significant aspect of your life at South will have vanished. Gone forever is the particular clang of locker doors and the special layering of old math papers, boots, lollipop wrappers, and book covers that you exposed each morning during the daily ritual of arriving and preparing for class. Next year the same ritual will continue but it won't be the same. The knots of old friends on the Goodwin benches will change, and those of us who stay will notice that the particular quality that you gave to the school has vanished. Classes, halls, and parking lots are never the same from year to year. Already the particular quality which you brought to school has faded, and the Class of 1969 has begun to establish its special and intangible individuality. It is fitting that you who are leaving and we who stay pay due notice to the special nature of the Class of 1968, which is now a thing of the past, and recognize that this nature and the contribution that each of you made to it are the most important gifts that you have given to the school. WILLIAM D. GEER, JR.
