One of the most popular places to hang-out at Newton North is on the library steps. The steps give the students easy ac- cess to the adjoining banisters. while also allowing them to block people from en- tering the library. ln the library, however. is one of the worst places to hang-out. unless you have been sedated. have laryngi- :fs or 'ike to be yelled at. U hangouts enough, seem to be inter- ested in gardening. Main Street is divided into six houses. These subdivi- sions of Main Street. made up of lockers, are also popular hang-outs. The students that hang- out at one house on Main Street are different from the students that hang- out at the other houses. For example, all the stu- dents who hang-out at Bacon House wear red clothes, all the students who hang-out at Adams House wear dark green clothes, and all the stu- dents who hang-out at Barry House wear bright yellow clothes. When Main Street is closed, many students hang-out in a commons room. What is a commons room? you may ask, just think of Boston Commons. Hanging out in the cafeteria between 11:10 A.M. and 12:45 P.M. is termed lunch , Students who have trouble with abstract concepts hang-out on the con- crete mall. For a change of scenery, a student might choose to hang-out out side the front entrance of the school. There hefshe can have a smoke, enjoy the com- pany of some friends. have a topical con- versation on auto-machancis or engine re- pair. or just relax and enjoy life as it goes by. Other students prefer to hang-out out- side the house exits on the Hrst floor, letting in the chilly drafts cf air, freezing everyone. Hang-outs are an integral part of school life. As I always say: You have to stand somewhere. The graduating class of Newton North High School is off to new hang-outs. new Main Streets, new library steps. Let's hope none of us end up hang- ing out with the bums in an alleyway in a cardboard box. Thank you. and have a good life' -Da vid Mirsk y
