OBTEN T AT TON Orientation is a weekiy aii-schooi meeting where guest speakers acquaint the student body with the important issues in a variety of subjects. A particuiariy successfui Orientation sea- son, this year's guest iist has inciuded guests of nationai im- portance. Of speciai interest on the iocai ievei, Mrs. Miidred Mahoney, chairman of the Mass. Committee for the Advancement of Pubiic Beiations , spoke on the probiem of discrimination of minorit groups. Dr. Louis Yabionsky, professor of Socioiogy at the n versity of Massachusetts, and Mr. Soseph Savignano, a poiiceman from Maine, gave insight into today's growing probiem of juve- niie deiinquency. Norman Thomas, the former sociaiist candidate for the residency, honored Newton Jr. Coiiege and for the day put the Coiiege on the regionai spotiight. Mr. Thomas' insight into worid affairs contributed to the eniightenment of those present. 'How to Get A 'Firm and Lasting Peace was the topic of the aii-day session of Orientation where Mr. Nflchaei Armine, author THE GREAT DECTSTON, was the keynote speaker. Members the panei discussing the probiem were Dr. Benjamin T. Sch- wartz, Harvard Center for East Asian Studiesg Edmund C. Berk- eiey, editor and pubiisher, Berkeieyg Prof. kemeritusj Geraid Barnes, BU., Department of Socioiogyg Dr. Aifred O. Hero, Jr., Executive-secretary, Worid Peace Foundation. The afternoon of this day-Tong conference was spent in smaii workshop groups rom which severai constructive suggestions were derived to this formidabie probiem. in conciusion, Orientation this year has taken on greater im- ortance in the educationai deveiopment of NJC students by pre- senting guests of particuiar significance in their respective fieids
