The 1950 grid team. with 12 returning lettermen, started the season with a 13 to 12 last quarter loss to the Hays Cadets. But they bounced back in the second game of the season to trounce Ark City -10 to 1,1 for Newton's first Ark Valley victory since the 1947 season. Then the powerful Wichita East Aces handed the optimistic Hailers a resounding 33 to 6 defeat. Although the Trainmen scored twice in the last half to tic Hutchinson 13 to 13, they suffered a major setback when Jim Shepler, co-captain and half-back, received a broken leg. ,ww
