1-119' ' Mrs. Ginevra G. Smith . . . neu' and forever, one and insepar- able! Daniel Webster Daniel Webster's words describe the wonderful and close relationship that has existed between Mrs. Ginevra G. Smith and Newton High School from the time that Mrs. Smith studied here as a student. Since then she has shown her loyalty and dedication to Newton High by serving as Executive Secretary to six of its principals. Her duties are various and valuable. She is an expert on school rules and traditions and is, therefore, a symbol of continuity and a source of information for the principal, faculty, students, and parents. She is the helpful woman so adept at maneuvering dates on the school calendar. She is also the administrator of college scholarship appli- cations and in this way meets many seniors. Mrs. Smith maintains faculty attendance and payroll records, and, above all, she is none the less a leakproof repository of confidential information. To the secretarial staff she is a guide and a mentor in the allocation of tasks, and a confidante and adviser as well. Everyone at Newton High School extends his sincerest thanks to Mrs. Smith for her long and dedicated service. 20

x XJ ADAMS HOUSE iff'- Francis J. Foster Housemaster '. Each house may determine the ruler of its proceedings . . . U. S. Constitution Adams House, under its excellent new constitution, this year made and carried out its own rules. However, as Housemaster Foster says, the houses primary responsibility is not to determine rules for the student body, but to help them to understand themselves and their place in mod- ern society. As the long list of Adams House members prominent in school activities, athletics and scholarship will testify, Mr. Foster and the Adams House staff have certainly fulfilled their responsibilities well. A spirit of individualism has been an important part of the Adams House atmosphere this year. The House Council adopted a fairly conserva- tive attitude, and, after careful investigation of all the pros and cons, de- cided, finally, not to institute some of the new innovations, such as coke machines, that the other houses did this year. The House Civics Committee organized a series of after school discussions, open to the whole student body and the faculty, on school, local and national problems. We are sure that this spirit of individualism, fostered by the housemaster, will lead many of the Adams House students to success in the future. Among the many other activities sponsored by Adams House this year were three assemblies, one of which dipped into the vast house reser- voir of theatrical and musical talent, and a holiday party that jammed the commons room and corridor with dancing and singing students. Yes, we think it is safe to say that, like the other five houses at New- ton High, Adams House is the best. House Council Q ,X b P ui .Y wi SS f -i ,l if j Ll E 5 Q is at N tXJ Tx is it I X s., ?
