VIETIERANS QQ' The end ol World War Il saw the begrnnlng of a new class at Newton l-hgh School, the Veterans, with Major Donald Enoch as adviser At hrst, enrollment was slight but It steadily Increased month by month untnl the number exceeded one hundred In March, 1946 ln fact their group expanded so much that 2107 their orlglnal homeroom, was found to be too small for any reasonable comfort, and another room In building two was substituted Upon enternng Newton l-hgh the Veterans were granted a special Bull ol Rights which provided the same pruvlleges conferred upon college students Thenr homeroom had no homeroom teacher They were free to do whatever they pleased wlthln their laws, when not attending classes If they had a study period scheduled at 8 30 and they didn t wish to report to lt, they were not required to be at school untul xt was time For thenr hrst class Thenr presence ID classes was benehclal For those students assocuated with them for the Veterans showed by thenr applled Interest In their subgects that they had returned to school to make good use of their time 4
