Oedel, in public life a conservative, iiarrow-minded vice-president of the Three-fourths National Bank, had been trans- formed into a raging fiend because he had been unable to fix an over-speeding charge against his nineteen-year-old son. Dick Kerr, the nationally-known orchestra leader, had been pinched so many times by the Goodwin's operatives that he had willingly agreed to use all his underworld connections to aid Cahan and Haley. The business interests of Arthur Anderson, Ir., who was practically dictator of Americas insurance policies.. had -clashed with the Goodwins aspirations to be complete dictator of Massachusetts. Robert NV. Chase, that famous designer of the Blivvet Superduper streamlined car was also in the combine for business reasonsg so many people had lost their licenses, and the few that had them were so afraid of losing them that nobody bought any cars. Taking care of the more subtle ends of political phenagling was the noted foreign diplomat, Tatsuo Yatsuhashig as the world peace had put him out of a job, he was only too glad to join forces with his former classmates. All these influential men were to line things up secretly so that all that would be needed at the 1960 elections would be the final push that would land Cahan in the Governors seat, and Haley in the Registrars ofhce, ending one of the most ruthless, terrorizing regimes in history.
