Mariel Bolin, the noted lecturer, has just returned from California. Peggy Coley, her companion and speech writer, will remain in California a few weeks, where she will get material for Mariel's next speech, How to Speak and Be Heardfi Frances Arndt, the famous surgeon, completed her l5,000th operation on a band student for appendicitis. Dr. Arndt's capable assistant is Algene Deal. The newly-married couple, John Bolick and Talitha Gantt, made the front page in the one-page newspaper, The Criminals Gazette, owned by William Smith, when they got in an argument with the renowned newspaper columnist, Bill Zimt- baum, on the subject of The Antiquity of Microbes. The ever-helpful Sam Rowe, the noted artist and poem writer, helped them settle their dispute by writing a poem entitled Lines VVritten on the Antiquity of Microbes . . . the poem was as follows: Adam Had 'Emf' Sam was asked why he had become an artist and poem writer when he had studied to be a business man. He explained with another poem, which read Hired, Tired, Fired. lVlartin Travis is the new preacher at the Fisher Lutheran Church in Nlaiden. This church was built by wealthy Clyde Fisher .... Bill Fisher, C. H. Herman and O. C. lsenhour have just returned to the United States from Alaska, where they have been vacationing .... Ruth Campbell, Mary Nell Cline, Peggy Cline and Vivian Eckard, all of whom now are married, have written a book on The Care of Husbands and Children! Carroll Johnson is the new dancing teacher at the Newton-Conover schools. Viola Fowler, the second Longfellow, has completed her last poem in a series called Those Things Called Men. Martha Nell Kaylor, Mary Ann Killian, Glenna lo Hollar and Margie Nell Simmons have a thriving business now . . . they just organized a Lonely Hearts Club . . . it has been rumored that the cause of their lonely hearts is W. T. Lemons, Lee Moritz, Leonard Butler and l. B. Curlee, who just joined the service .... Harry McRee and C. Yancy played a thrilling game for Army in the Army-Navy game . . . too bad they were on Navy's team. . . . The bridge over our sled hill from North College to Davis Avenue has just been constructed by Lorene Teague and Margaret Towery. Betty Moser is the proud mother of twins. Miss Juanita Furr has acquired the position of cook at the new Newton-Conover Hotel . . . Miss Phyllis Walling is also employed there as dishwasher. The Stop-Over Bus Line, owned and operated by Eddie Ray Sigmon, now has a new owner, lack Wilson. Mr. Bill Reinhardt has just left for a cruise around the world in the new boat he recently designed . . . those in his party were Frances Wilkie, Margaret Whisenhunr and Dwight Dellinger. Susan Stearns, missionary to China, has just returned home for a visit with her marine. loe Furr and his Hlipe livey loesn are featured nightly at Beck Smiths Tea Room. With him is Doris Hewitt as soloist and Roy Eller on the saxophone. And so ends the list of the Seniors' future to be . . . And all will turn out well, as you can readily see. Page Turentyfone
