Mr. Walter Reinhardt has announced the opening of the Claremont Dairy. This new dairy is one of a chain that Mr. Reinhardt' is operating. Mrs. Oscar C. Good. the former Miss Aileen Cline. told the press today that she intends to sail for Europe next month. Miss Margaret Rowe will leave next week for New York where she will enter the national beauty show to be held there. Miss Helen Corpening. news editor of the Culfsh Courier, has just published her latest book. Etiquette in the Classroom. . Word has been received here that two women. Misses Ruth Keever and Louise Sherrill. are among the candidates for the governorship of Utah. Miss Keever is running on the Socialist ticket, while Miss Sherrill is upholding the Communistic ideals. Mr. Fred Clark. internationally known baseball pitcher. has signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs for next' season. Miss Vivian Bolick, blues singer over radio station WSOC, was among the lucky ones to win huge sums from the Irish Sweepstakes last week. Miss Marjorie Schell. a well known journalist. is writing for the Charlotte Observer, a series of editorials entitled The Curse on our Younger Generation. Prof. James Bolick, of the State College faculty. has announced his intentions of getting up an expedition to study plant life on the Antarctic Continent. Miss Mildred Sttllivan. private secretary to the U. S. ambassador to India. is home on a vacation. Miss Eva Jones, movie star of a few seasons ago, has made known her intentions to stage a comeback into the movie world. Mr. Thurmond I-larvell will open a tap-dancing school in the Catfish section sometime next month. Miss Evelyn Martin of the Columbia University faculty has returned from a twelve- months tour of the world. She has made a study of the social conditions in the countries she visited. Miss Kathryn Simmons has made known her plans to charter an airplane for a hurried trip to the Orient. where she will attend to affairs on her rice plantation. Mr. James Murray, graduate of West Point, has decided to continue with the Army. Miss Pauline Simmons has announced her engagement to be married to a multi-millionaire. whose name was not revealed, Miss Betty Shuford has recently stated that her nationally known Matrimonial Service will be extended throughout Canada and Mexico. Miss Shuford's motherly advice to thousands of young men and women may be heard every day on a nation wide radio hook-up. Miss Eloise Carpenter. according to reports, is on her way to California where she will take charge of her extensive orange groves. Mr. Donald Watters has recently bought out the controlling interest in Watt'ers. Watters. and Watters. Inc.. of this section. Miss Virginia Smith has just been awarded her Ph.D. at Columbia University. Mr. Frank Self has announced that he intends to open an elaborate chain of hamburger stands throughout the Piedmont section of North Carolina. Miss Ruby Self. a famous beauty specialist of New York. said last week, in a statement to the press. that she would not let' any hair tonic manfacturers use her name in connection with their products. Mr. Joe Knox was recently admitted to the Conover Clinic for the Mentally Defective. The only thing Knox would say was. Don't cross your bridges until they're hatched. 6 'il' Senior Class Prophecy As soon as I was elected prophet of the Class of '35, I followed the custom of all good fortune tellers and tried to procure for myself a crystal gazing ball. Limited funds pro- hibited the use of a real crystal ball, so I turned an old fish bowl upside down and looked inside. I gazed intently into the bowl, and soon there appeared before me an issue of our own school newspaper, Hi-Life, dated May 20. 1950. Dr. Samuel Isenhower, founder of the Conover Clinic for the Mentally Defective, has just completed his latest book, Elephant Liver as a Preventive of Sore Throat and Near- sightednessf' Miss Maxine Biles. in a recent statement to the press, said that she would board an air- liner for Europe where she will study art. Miss Lorena Wagoner, noted cartoonist, will soon begin her comic strip in the Maiden Gazette. Mr. Edgar Curley, who has been athletic direct'or at Balls Creek for several years. has accepted a position as football coach at Concordia College. Miss Mary Cochrane is planning to Hy to Milan, Italy. next week. to study architecture. Mr. Frederick Hughey, owner of the Conover Moving Picture Studios, will open a branch of his business at Catawba in the near future. Miss Pauline Burns was recently awarded the Pulitzer Prize for having written the best book of the year. Mr. John Deal, popular necktie salesman of this section is making a business trip to Moscow this week. Miss Elizabeth Rowe, assistant editor of the Los Angeles Sun. has announced her inten- tion of retiring. It is rumored that Miss Rowe will be married soon. Miss Annette Smith told the press today that she hoped to open up a beauty parlor in Hickory soon. It will be known as Annett'ee's Beauty Shoppeef' Mr. John Carpenter, popular business man of Maiden. will accept a position with a prominent firm in New York City. Miss Edith Deal. newspaper woman of Chicago, visited her relatives in Conover recently. Mr. Dudley Poole has accepted the position as chief announcer at radio station WSOC. Miss Rebekah Brady, popular Broadway star, has lately signed a 5-year contract with the Paramount Moving Picture Studios of Hollywood. Miss Mary Hoover. missionary to Korea, is now home on a furlough. Mr. Clifford Price. owner of a chain of hot dog emporiums in Maiden, has announced the opening of a similar chain in Newton. Miss Lucille Horne. nurse at the Catawba County Hospital, will be married soon to a prominent business man of Claremont. Mr. Woodrow Bost, junior member of the firm of Bost, Bost and Bost, has recently opened a taxi service in Oyama. Misses Katherine Hewitt and Freda Lee Hunsucker have opened an elaborate chain of coffee shops throughout North Carolina. Miss Beck Coley has accepted a position with an internationally known firm of dress- makers wit'h headquarters in Paris. Mr. Collins Ervin, director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, has recently returned from Europe where he made a series of talks on Jazz Music. Miss Frankie Smith is now living in Berlin where she is making a survey of German social conditions. Miss Edith Lominac. famed aviatrix, has announced that she will soon attempt a non- stop fiight around the world.
