The Freshmen have en- tered into this year full of excitement and enthusiasm. They have shown great potential throughout the year and have truly become members of the Newton Catholic student body. There are two paths you can go on, but in the long run, there’s always time to change the road you're on. 19 Chapter Two 66 | ee ee % ae | | i i a We survived a freshman year and now we are on our way to the top! Being a sophomore means building lasting friendships that we created as a freshman. Now we can relax, enjoy life, and really become a part of what’s happen- ing. Let us hope that the year ahead of us will be filled with many challenges and much success. 11 apt! yl” sevij It's great being a Junior. You are right in the middle of things. Finally an upperclassman, almost a Senior. You can dream about the future instead of worrying about it. You can concentrate on social life instead of the studying. As a Junior everything has possibilities. As a Senior every- thing has deadlines. Yes, it is great being a Junior, but not great enough to want to go back. ht “Prom Nig The Gans Ake Here’ Yearbook Play Drama National Honor Society The National Honor Society was very successful this year. Their advisor, Miss Gallagher along with President Dawn Brooks, Vice-President Marc Hung, Treasurer Billy Price and Secretary Tina Caira showed their leadership, scholarship, character and service in all they did. They helped the needy during Thanksgiving in providing them with an enjoyable holiday, and they also volun- teered to drive Senior Citizens to the annual school play. A great thanks is due to them and we hope they continue with their good work. Senior Class Officers Yearbook WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!! We will never forget all the long hours we spent working. The “good times” will always be remembered: White-out!, ruler fights, memories, sleep overs, picture taking, art work and Deadlines. It’s really been worth it and we hope you think so too. This book represents the past four years we’ve spent together. Our memories of our senior year will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Karen Andrews, Andrea Hamel, and Miss Morrison for their con- tributions to our yearbook. Student Council This year, we had very strong lead- ers to represent our school. President Dennis Walsh and Vice President James Gibbons worked hard to rec- ognize the opinions of their fellow stu- dents. Secretary Audrey Walsh and Treasurer Debbie MacDonald also contributed to making the school year a success. The tradition of Homecoming Week was once again the highlight of the school year. The Student Council was able to bring out the spirit of the school and turn it into a very enthu- siastic week. Camelot, the 1982 annual school play was a big crowd pleaser. Together as a family we unit- ed with our Director Mrs. Mary Treddin and the final outcome was an outstanding performance that will echo through the halls of N.C. for years to come. 23 The Verdict’’ | q LLL, TTI rei LiihiliLiz,, 2277777] 1 I ( J [ENE ENE NOSES = SASS LESAN RA GATSSS SQWmeew wae .. —eewe =e wee eebtase = —— = ——-.42e=«==e Ee ONES N Ss ) a CH SSS 3S SSS aS ya Peel = SS i Sos f SSA ew SN h) Faculty “Tootsie” Mr. Morris Mrs. Surwillo Mrs. Treddin Miss French ee ee nye ee eS me | “Brubaker” “Aerobicise!” Mr. Daviau a irctiniined Mr. Dabenigno Miss Sullivan Mrs. Pepper Sr. Julia “The Enforcer’ “Family Affair” COOH SAGEM IBY “Ordinary People” “French Connection” Mrs. Canty Mr. Mannette Miss Gallagher Miss Keshian Miss Morrison Miss Tashjian Mr. Hanson Miss Bradbury ene SereET Toy wont Cafeteria Staff Joe Greeley Mr. Miller Mr. Donovan ” ining “Who's Killing the Great Chefs of Europe” “The Sh 30 pectators re) = D © Pas O O fe) = = © 1?) Priante This year was a very successful year for the 1982-83 Varsity Cheerleading squad. They showed their enthusiasm by planning rallies, entertaining the fans, and getting their team psyched before the game. Under the leader- ship of Senior Captains Dawn Brooks and Cathy Demeo, they traveled from bus to field to court cheering for touchdowns and baskets, determined to push their team onto victory. By shouting and screaming encouragement, they captured the crowd’s attention and gave their team all their support. They felt like a part of their team!! 35 Football First Row: S. Terrio, J. Pappa B. Martin, C. Pelligrini, S. Moran, D. Reid, N. Abruzzi ' The 1982 Newton Catholic Football team fought right down to the wire. The Lancers ended the year with a 4 and 5 record, but the standings do not totally reflect the team’s great effort and enthusiasm. Demonstrating talent and determination: All-Catholic Marc Hung who led the Lancers in rushing and scoring, All-Catholic Gerard Franchi who held his ground at center, and All-Catholic Steve Nugent who led the defensive line. The Lancers, led by tri-captain Steve Nugent, Brian Kling, and Marc Hung had team spirit on and off the field. Dedication and inspiration of coach Tom Raeke and his assistants, Louie Abruzzi and Danny MacEwen gave the team what they needed to move on the field. 39 wae . ' i ; a Kneeling: S. Calabro, M. D’Angelo It was a fun year for the volleyball team. There were many hard practices, and many tough teams to play, but it all paid off because it brought us closer to our teammates and to our school. With the help of coaches, Mr. Dabeningo and Miss Lalli, we accepted the challenges of the season. The encourage- ment and dedication of varsity captains, (Junior) Maria Gentile and (Sophomore) Shari Colabro, and Junior varsity captain, (Freshman) Cheryl Chagnon, the year was a success. Con- gratulations and good luck in the future seasons. 4) ctators Soraaialiatianag’ Kneeling: T. Sheehan, C. Scafidi, S. Roberts, K. Walsh, C. Shea, D. Reid, J. Huckaby, Standing: Coach Bugholzer, P. Coached by Mrs. O'Toole, the girls tried their best and enjoyed all the time and energy that it took to play each game. Co-Captains Maria Gentile and Judy Jackson led the team on with spirit and encourage- ment. We can be sure that in the years ahead our determination will be our key to success. 45 Basketball Top row Lto R: T. Canty, S. Moran, T. DeRosa, T. Coughlin, J. Shermon, Coach D. Dabeningo. Captains Jim Ross and Scott McAdam proved their leadership as they pushed the team to victories. Time, effort, and enthusiasm from coach Don Dabeningo gave the team the spirit they showed on the court. The boys team ended with a winning record of 10-7. 47 Cagles belong where they carly, Cae rile free, 49 Joseph Aiello Memories: Drivers Ed Computer Club Summer of 82 My own car. Give Blood?!
