The vivacious and versatile cheerleaders never fail to capture the crowd's attention. The tremendous time and energy devoted to practice was plainly visible as they flawlessly performed a kaleidoscopic array of routines. The Varsity squad, led by Marion Cocuzzo, and the J.V. squad, led by Denise Brooks and Gabriella Fierimonte, primed the fans. The spectators in turn were unmatched in support of their team. They shouted and screamed their encouragement, spurring the teams on to success. Their enthusiasm is surpassed only by their devotion. 53 FIRST ROW: E. Wallace, P. Battista, Capt. M. Cocuzzo, M. The team, led by Tri- Captains George Paglia, Paul Janjigian, and Joe Connolly, possessed an indomitable spirit. Demonstrating determination and boldness were All-Catholic Tony Rosetti, who was first in rushing, All-Catholic John Venditti, steadfast in his performance at center, and All-Catholic George Paglia, who overpowered the opposition at tackle. The Lancers were inspired by the dedication of Coach Tom Raeke and his assistants, Louie Abruzzi, Danny MacEwen, and Dave Girouard. 59 UF I MOvUIn 2 = = — ww Sa ier ae ws aa n FIRST ROW: L. Doherty, C. Coletti, Coach C. Timmins. The N.C. team is short on pomp and fancy facilities, but long on driving competitiveness and dynamic energy. This year, the girls were promoted from Division Two to Division One. No moment better justified the promotion than the confrontation against Matignon when the girls were led by the outstanding serving of All-Catholic, L. Abruzzi and the powerful spiking of All-Catholic, R. Canty. The girls rebounded from losing the first match to a win in the second, 15 to 6. In the tie-breaker, the team put up a tremendous fight. The forceful serving of L. Downey, coupled with the precise setting of J. Lynch, and the strong spiking of F. Anselme, kept the score very close to that of Matignon’s. Behind the success of the varsity team is Coach R. Ojala who directed and encouraged the team in each match. The junior varsity team, coached by C. Timmons, held their own with the serving of C. Coletti and D. Murphy, the spiking of M. Doherty and the setting of R. Farina. 61 UN a, DAY AY as. ‘ A FIRST ROW: M. Eldredge, M. DiDuca, J. Harvey, P. Cahill, T. Rosetti. Generating the spirit for the team’s winning season (11-3) were the dynamic captains N. Brennan, C. Connaughton, L. DelGrosso, and F. Anselme. Igniting the action-packed games were high scorers C. Connaughton with 142 points and Jeanne Lynch with 88 points. C. McNulty’s agility and versatility boosted the team to numerous victories. Through the encouraging guidance of coaches Marty White and Ronnie Pepper, the season was both spirited and successful. FIRST ROW: S. Ross, T. Finelli, D. Cocoran, }. Barry, J. Webber, J. Ross. SECOND ROW: V. Anselme, S. Calabro, J. Toomey, B. Brennan, Coach Ronnie Pepper. Displaying eagerness and a zest for competition, the J.V. teams drove successfully toward outstanding records. The lofty spirit of captains C. Coletti, M. Doherty, and R. Farina created a vitality that motivated the girls’ team. The zeal and aggressive rebounding of captains D. Cocoran and J. Mingolelli set the pace for the fast-moving action of the boys’ games. Optimism and the persistent direction of J.V. coaches Don Dabeningo, Ronnie Pepper, and Marty White roused the teams’ incentive to win. 67 Abounding with excitement, human and alive, marked by richness and strength, We are the class of 80.
