Ezghteen Class l'l1story l944 On September 4 1940 one hundred ninety six enthusiastic Freshmen began their eventful high school career As the day continued we felt some of our enthusiasm leave us as we t1m1dly faced the confident upper classmen and teachers One of the highlights of the entire year was the Freshman Reception given to us by the Sophomores The dances held throughout the year along with our class room act1v1t1es enabled us to form lasting friendships Our Sophomore year brought more sp1r1t and pep to the members of the class Now 1t was our turn to watch the shy but eager efforts of the in commg Freshmen Durlng the year many classmates began to dxsplay their marked abilities in music and athletics Each one of us will long remember that momentous day in December when the United States entered the Second World War To us we knew thrs war would mean the loss of teachers and classmates The beginning of another year found the Iunror class headed by Paul Rishko president Albert Kanyuck vice president Antoinette Shiposkr secre tary and Emory Riefski treasurer Although our membership had somewhat decreased cooperation and class spirit had greatly 1ncreased This was to the gayety and success of the affair A sad loss to our Iunior class was the death of our beloved classmate Evelyn Repotski The opening of school in 43 brought joy to our hearts and the feeling of greater achievement as we entered Newport High not Just as students but at last as Sen1ors The class was organized as follows Frank Terkoski president Fobert Repotski vice president Emory Rxefskx secretary and George Deluca trea urer Mr F Shepela and Mr S Lerda were selected as our class advlsers for the year Under the competent leadership of Mr Max E Adams the Senior class strove to make the publication of the 1944 Newportarit a vast success Other outstanding events of the year were the Senlor class play the Iunior Prom the Farewell Dance held in honor of the Senior boys who left to 1o1n the armed forces and last but not least was the memorable day on which we received our class rings and pins Each one of us will long remember the four years we spent together in dear old N T H S IUNL ENGLER IEAN KICHNER EDNA ANTOLIK lLeltyl Friendly kind and courteous oo Dearest classmate ths Y O .T exemplified by our memorable Iunior Prom.
