School Begins With Old “But, Mr. Keesee, I thought we had graduated from Ding Dong School!” Newport News High School students returned to school to find new methods added to the established routine. Although the bell and clock systems failed to operate during the first few weeks, students were able to turn their attention to the new public address unit and the corridor permission slips. However, traditions also became a part of the students’ lives — traditions such as the annual Mouse Assembly and the Homecoming Celebration. All too soon, the facul- ty and pupils settled down to their individual rou- tines, including work, practice, and fun. Homeroom students listen as Mr. Etheridge makes the daily announcements over the new public address system. “And now for the next question, Senator Shii ' kson,” adds May Meg. Upperclassmen, portraying political figures, also parti- cipated in the Mouse Assembly. Karen Yevak and Mary Kay Massey pause a moment before playing their piano duet in the annual Mouse Assembly. 8
