To The lvlernbers ol: the l:ebruary Graduating Class ol: lQLl3 ln these trying times, it is not too difficult to- tell Mem- bers of the February Graduating Class a few important words that may help them in the months to come. This class is leaving school during the greatest conflict in the history of the world. Who knows, but in six months many of you will be sent to various parts of the globe to fight for the same ideals for which our forefathers fought, and the Allied Nations are fighting to preserve. Most of you boys, and a few girls' will be entering the armed services ofthe United States. lf so, I do wish you will remember this fine motto: When the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost, but how you played the game. With this motto in mind, Members of the February Grad- uating Class, remember this world conflict is the greatest con- test that has ever been fought on any field. lt will be necessary at all times for you to play that game hard, remain physically fit, and sacrifice all you can to help our boys bring back victory and an everlasting democracy for the world of tomorrow. l am sure that students of this class will present themselves to the world, giving all they have, asking no odd. A Newport News boy or girl has never had to withdraw because of lack of courage whether it be an easy or a hard task. Now it is time to prove to the world that there are many boys and girls among you who will be capable leaders in this world conflict. .There may be others of you who will go to work in the various defense industries, especially the local shipyard. If you do, work hard, and steadfastly. Remember that a fellow member of your class is out on the battlefield, or upon the ocean waiting for the tools you are turning out to beat the Axis Nations. Students, you are ready because of the fine training you have received here at Newport News High School. Good bye, good luck, and may God bless you. lJULlUS CONN SIX
