It consists of sixteen girls, with. abilities to mingle alto and soprano to a degree of near pwfvctioa. The yearly functions of these singing elite are to appear in ifariozis social inffctinas, to sing in the spring cantata and at cominwwcnztent exercises. Daring the Past semester, they participated in the first State Concert at Richmond. Heretofore, the club has had a large memlmrsliip, but this year it was cnt to simteen selected singers.

Ahoy Middies It might aptly bc said that the band is the barometer of the foot- ball team. And as football oatdid itself in presenting a colorfully triumphant season, so the band rose to great heights in such highlights as the Hampton game, the city schools' parade and the Richmond broad- cast. Q i During the football games in the fall the band would sit faithfully by during cold or adverse weather, boosting spirits and spurring on with the snappy strains of On Old Newport. Meeting eifcry Tuesday and Friday, on the athletic field or in the auditorium, the band is under that old maestro of stiff legs, Drum Major Mabry fllinter. There they receive the elements of team work, advanced music and the fundamentals of marching. And speaking-a-h, 'fwotta platoon ! Early during the semester they were presented with, marine caps by the Apprentice School through their representatire, Mr. Guy G. Via. After a few weeks of experimen- tal marching upon the athletic field, the band made its debut at the Apprentice School's first game. Thereafter in rapid silccession followed the parade of the city schools, where the entire school marched behind the Old Gold and Dark I?lue's pride. Their appearance created a murmur of praise, for the townsfollf enjoy a brislf organization whose attractive formations marching and musician-ship are of the highest degree. But, after all, thirty-fire boys marching to the strains of Newport High and led by a baton-stinging Minter-fzrho u'ouldn't be inspired? PQGE THIRTV-ONE
