COMMANDER SECOND FLEET COMMANDER STRIKINC FLEET ATLANTIC VICE ADMIRAL BERNARD A. CLAREY, USN . On August 22, 1966, Vice Admiral Clarey became the 20th Commander of the Second Fleet and Striking Fleet Atlantic. He brings to this challanging job an admirable-set of credentials. I S Bernard Ambrose Clarey was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on May 4, 1912. Graduating from the United States Naval Academy, he was commissioned Ensign on May 31, 1934. Admiral Clarey's first duty was aboard acruiser, USS MILWAUKEE , from June, 1934 to December, 1936, In that month he was assigned to Submarine instruction at New London, Connecticut. He served in Submarines from that time throughout all of World War II, making a total of nine .
