Glee Club The Glee Club officers are as follows: President ...... Vice-President Secretary Treasurer .... Reporter Librarians. . . . Director .Duane Hutchinson .Bobby Porterfield Marlene Duncan Norma Williams F rankie Sibold Nettie Kirk Mattie Sue Porterfield Mrs. K. H. Farrier The activities of the Glee Club during the year are providing music for the Christmas Pageant, an annual program sponsored by the Beta Club, the recitals, and other programs presented by the school. Public Speaking The Speaking Club was organized in 1948. In 1949 the following people participated in the Banker ' s Contest: Polly Smith, Shirley Rose, and Annalee Scott. Three students from V. P. I. judged the contest. In our local contest last year Frankie Sibold won first place. The speeches as a whole were a big success. With the proceeds the club made a payment on the movie projector which is being bought by the school. Increasing interest is being shown in the development of literary activities. April 13 has been set for the contest this year. Seventeen members will participate. 33
