Girls 9 Basketball In September we organized our basketball team. We chose Delorous Rader captain, Mary Ann Williams co-captain, Jo Ann Dowdy manager, and Mrs. Baird coach. Our first team forwards were Duane Hutchinson, Mary Ann Williams, Delorous Rader; the first team guards were Frankie Sibold, Marlene Duncan, Shirley Meredith. Substitute forwards were Peggy Dowdy, Jo Ann Dowdy, and Dolly Rader. Substitute guards were Nettie Kirk, Verree Smith, and Peggy Duncan. The girls were successful in playing ball this season. We played ten games and lost only one. We won the championship for the year 1950-51 by defeating Ceres with a score of 27-20. M ary Arm Williams made 121 points, this making her high scorer; Delorous Rader came next with 93 points. We showed good sportsmanship at all our games. MEMBERS Duane Hutchinson, Marlene Duncan, Delorous Rader, Frankie Sibold, Shirley Meredith, Mrs. Baird (Coach), Peggy Dowdy, Jo Ann Dowdy, Dolly Rader, Peggy Duncan, Nettie Kirk, Leathia Porterfield (Score Keeper), Verree Smith, Mary Ann W illiams , Martha Sue Smith, Mattie Sue Porterfield (Score Keeper). Boys 9 Basketball The boys ' basketball team was very successful this year, winning another orange and maroon banner in the District S Tournament. We entered the Regional Tournament with high hopes of winning but were defeated by Wallace by a score of 66-24. Carper Caldwell was high point man with 82 points. Kelly Hypes was close behind with 77. Carper Caldwell and Jimmy Kessinger were forwards. Kelly Hypes was center. Elmer Porterfield and Chapman Williams were guards. Elmer Porterfield was captain, Carper Caldwell was co-captain, and Bobby Porterfield was manager.
