NEW PORT HIGH SCHOOL BETTER ASSEMBLIES Students especlally Freshmen and Sophomores How many of you can hardly walt for Wednesday afternoon to come? Maybe you can t but IS lt because of our enthuslastlc assemblles or IS It because you have a half hour that you don t have to study? It IS easy to notlce that some of the students aren t slttlnv on the edge of thelr seats llstenlng They are elther slouched down ID thelr seats whlsper lng glggllng readlng wrltlng notes or trylng to attract somebody s atten tlOH Is thls the type of assembly you want or don t you want any or per haps not as many? Flrst we must find the klnd of assembly you want and then go to work and provlde for lt We ll all have to admlt we have had some D108 assemblles thls year and some outstandlng speakers but perhaps they went too far over your head When We have talent from the school perhaps thelr Jokes are too old or they have been on the program so much that you are tlred of them That IS a blg problem gettlng all stu dents to take part but how can we get the rest of them to? It ISH t all your fault because when we have assembhes at the school bulldlng lt IS so overcrowded that It s hard to get the attentlon from all There IS more or less confuslon ln the Town Hall and that IS also dlfficult Let s all pledge to take part ln our assemblles encourage and get others to help find new talent suggest new ld93S and we ll have better assembhes THE SCHOOL CITIZEN There comes the tlme IU the latter quarter of the year when the faculty and the senlor class encounter the task of chooslng the wlnner of the school cltlzenshlp award It IS there fore the task of thls short edltorlal to lI1f0I'I0 you of the quallflcatlons for thls honor and to lmpress you wlth the lmportance of recelvlng such an award Flrst let us see what a good cltlzen must do ln order to be ellglble for thls group In the words of Frank N Eaton Jr a former member of our faculty A good cltlzen lsa person llvlng IH a certaln place who lS Just as happy as can be and ln so dolng makes all hlS nelghbors as happy as posslble The person IS a student the place IS N H S the nelghbors fellow stu dents And to make everythlng clear thls IS what a good school cltlzen IS A student who IS Just as S3.tlSH9d as posslble but ln reachlng hls destln atlons makes hls fellow students happy If you boo at athletlc contests your fellow students are ashamed of you Now for the benefit of a few pessl mlsts lf you don t do somethlng so as to make a nelghbor happy but at the same tlme you are d1SS3IlSfl6d you stlllaren t a good cltlzen at school Thus the good school cltlzen s actlvl tles are llmlted to those who accom pllsh a dual purpose of maklng both lts doer happy and also 1tS 3SSOCl3t6S The rest remalns for the lHdlVldUal and may he who has the ambltlon to recelve the school cltlzenshlp award meet wlth success though the stone of lack of cooperatlon obstruct hls path 7 4 1 5 J 1- L, . . - 1 1 T , I v Y , I .
