THE LIVE WIRE -L l 32 l 1- Members of the Future Farmers are drawn from the Agrlculture classes These boys have done a great deal to lmprove the school They put on the Thanksglvmg Assembly wlth Mr Donald Scanlln as Guest Speaker At thls wrltlng they are selllng tlckets on a plg to be drawn off IH an assembly Wlth thls money the Farmers wlll buy baseball equlpment Members of the team have already purchased sweat shlrts whlch are dark blue wlth orange letters Home Economics Club Officers Presldent Vlrglnla Lockwood Vlce Presldent Eleanor White Sec y and Treas Nellle Lewls Facultv Advlsor Mlss Smlth The Home Economlcs Club IS also newly organlzed th1S year The glrls who take Home Economlcs may be long These glrls acted as waltresses at the basketball banquets thls wlnter and at other occaslons They have also ralsed money enough to pay for one of the two new stoves bought for the Home Lconomlcs Lab Boys Athletlc Club Oflicers Presldent Everett Merrlll Vlce Presldent Elwood Parent Sec y and Treas Vlncent Smlth Advlsor Mr Clement Also new thls year IS the Boys Athletlc Club Its meetlngs are very lnterestlng and helpful to the conduct of both varslty and lntramural sports The boys have galned a better know ledge of the fine polnts of each sport than could be secured on the playlng field alone as well as findlng out the value of tralnlng cooperatlon and good sportsmanshlp Manv of the boys are mstallmg athletlcs IU some form as one of thexr chlef hobbles Girls Athleuc Club Gfflcers Pres Patrlcla Anderson V Pres Ellen Klmball Sec y and Treas Vlllora Knowles Thls club has done much to further the value of athletlcs for glrls Soft ball h1k1ng and bowllng have been among the dlfferent aCtlV1tl6S Home Rooms The Junlor Senlor Sophomore and Freshmen Home Rooms devote 10 mln utes each mornlng where notlces cur out of school and plans for the future are all emphasled On some Frldays these groups meet for a full actlvltles period and some lnterestlng worth whlle and often hotly contested open forum dlscusslons have been held on school problems Wmter Carnival The annual Wmter Carmval was a huge success thls year Starrlng ln the afternoon events for Newport were Kenneth Mullen Henry DeRaps Jos eph Tardy Grenvllle Anderson and Eleanor Whlte A fine supper was held at the Grange hall and the aifalr came to a cllmax wlth the program and dance at the Town Hall ln the evenlng Readlngs muslc by the Glee Clubs and orchestra and a captlvatlng play by the Speech Club were the features of the program followlng whxch the dance floor was well filled wlth enthuslastlc dana ers 9 . .
