lL.il--Lil-4Li-i be zfowcrfs ENLARGEMENT OF OUR CURRICULUM THROUGH CORRESPONDLNCE SCHOOL COURSES Many hlgh schools today do not have all the courses avallable for the pupxls that are deslrable or that are offered ln the larger hlgh schools and prepar atory schools havlng greater financial means In order to provlde these de slred courses many lnstltutlons are enlarging thelr curricula by OEGPIUQ' done 1n correspondence school courses If the student flIllSh6S the course as offered by the correspondence school he gets as much credit as he would re celve had he taken the subject as a regular course Faculty supervlslon can be provlded wlth practlcally no burden to the teacher In thls way the pupll IS given a much more varled course of study to choose from We mlght c1te an example of the practlcabllltv of th1s plan we find a student who wants to go to the Mass achusetts Instltute of Technology after he completes hls work 1n hlgh school He learns that ln order to go he wlll need at least one half year s prepara tlon ln both solld geometery and trlg onometry As these subjects are not offered ln the average high school thlS boy IS obllged to go to a prepara tory school for a year or else choose another college If hls hlgh school gave credlt ln correspondence school courses he could attend the same school and be prepared for the ad vanced mstltutlon wlthout the loss of a year IH a preparatory school Of course thls program would entall some expense but the pupll could pay thls small sum and when he had fimshed the course the school mlght refund one half By thls means the pupll and school would stand the ex pense equally and the school would have the guarantee that the pupll dld hls work well Otherwlse the school would have no expense as 1tS refund would come only after the pupll had success fully completed hls work Let s hope we can see such a pro gram go through and thereby mam tam for N H S everything that IS offered the students of the rich c1ty schools MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS Why aren t more students learmng to play muslcal 1nstruments'P They aiord much fun and are a way to spend lelsure tlme Many students llke to hear good orchestras over the radlo but why aren t more lnterested ln produclng muslc llke thls them selves? A good chance for experlence IS glven here 1n the school by the school orchestra At the present tlme a few students are studymg v1ol1n or trumpet and one IS lessons One can that ln a few years the school orches tra wlll be a very small organlzatlon taklng trombone lmmedlately see -401'-W --lil W Z, 1 , ,ti ' I . . . g ' ! , .
