NEVN PORT HIGH SCHOOL show that Carl Getchell how to bulld alrplanes And Chrls dld just that Wlth the money he earned from Mr Norton he was able to buy maternal and bulld a beautlful Shlp Jlmmle helped all he could and the next Saturday found them at a field on the other end of Brownvllle wlth thelr planes ready for the blg contest A large crowd was gathered there and among the fore most spectators was Mr Norton Fllghts were made and the Judges finally narrowed the contest down to Carl and Chrls In truth Carl had a very good looklng plane for hls father was r1ch and he had bought excellent materlal C1lI'lS came first Slowly he wound up the propeller of h1s alrplane Sud denly there was a snap The elastlc had broken Chrls heart sank He had no other elastlc Well IH that case I suppose I wln eh? sneered Carl Not on your llfe you don t The volce was Jlmmle s and he stood ln front of Chrls an elastlc dangllng from hls rlght hand Take thlS elas t1c Chrls he sald wlth a grln and show this bully how a plane should Y Chrls was overjoyed How could he thank Jlmmle? THE LIVE WIRE and was wlthln a few feet of the ground when he yelled Ouch' my thumb What happened CIIFISQ lnqulred Jlmmle Oh I guess lt s nothlng rephed Chrls as he Jumped to the ground and examlned hls thumb It was plerced by a spllnter wh1ch he removed w1th conslderable pam Jlmmle expressed hls thanks Well are you fellows comxng or not? asked Chrls lnsolently Be rlght wlth you answered Jlmmle lm anxlous to see the pony too The Norton farm was a short dls tance from the field and they soon reached lt Mr Norton was a kmd man and let the boys rlde the pony whlch he had recently bought The boys took turns rldlng the little pony Soon they returned Chrls and Carl went to the pump fora drlnk whlle Jlmmle took the pony to the barn As he was about to enter the barn door the pony gave a leap and broke loose from hls grlp runnlng for the other end of the barn As he passed the beam where the alrplanes were lylng Jlmmle saw somethlng Whlte on the floor Just as the pony s sharp llttle hoofs crushed It ID the mlddle Jlmmle ran to the spot and plcklng up the remalns he found that It was hls own plane Burstlng lnto tears he looked up to see Carl who dld not seem a blt sorry That thlng wasn t any good any way he leered Jlmml6 was so angry at thls that he grabbed Carl s plane and crushed lt to blts ID hls fingers Carl gave a roar and sprang at Jlmmle But the smaller boy was too quxck for hrm and leaplng aslde he ran for the pump Chrls who had heard the argument saw Carl over taklng Jlmmle and as they neared the pump he stuck out hrs foot and Carl plunged head over heels lnto the wa terlng trough Falrly bubbllng Wlth rage Carl scrambled out of the trough and struck at Chrls but h1s arm was caught ln a larger one Looklng around he saw Mr Norton That wlll do Carl warned Mr Norton ln calm tones I heard the whole argument and you deserved a good duckmg Now beat It home and plCk on boys your slze Carl lost no tlme but turned back to makea partmg remark You Just walt all of you my father Wlll buy me test next Saturday and there s a Hve dollar prlze too Don t mmd hlm Jlmmle sald Chrls You take my plane and I ll help you fix It up so lt Wlll beat any plane he gets Gee thanks Chrls rephed Jlmmle But what are you golng to do?
