Sure ya a swell guy chlmed IH several other volces If ya wasn t Wldder Gray would never a glven ya That s how lt went untll Funny Face all puffed up and glowmg from the flattery led the parade to the cor ner grocery store Freda Beek 38 MY BLIND DATE O' I shouted most emphatlcally Oh Jane come on Dlck says he s a grand guy It w1ll be for only one nlght and you know the Wm ter Ball IS so wonderful the dreamy muslc lowllghts glrls Hoatlng across the floor ln thelr llght dresses tall handsome men ln tuxes can t you Just plcture It Jane? Of course Ican I can also plcture a blmd date I m sorry Sue but I Just can t make myself go ' Jane sat by her desk fingerlng her numerous dance programs that usually hung from the wall There were red green blue black sllver el leather ln fact all kmds lmaglnable Jane loved to look them through They brought back many memories of grand tlmes She was thlnklng how shed llke to go to the Winter Ball but she Just couldnt go on a bllnd date and Vet Her thoughts were interrupted by I really thmk lt s rather mean of you Jane After all Dlck got you the date and everythmg Oh Sue lf Icould only see hlm Jane blushed gulltlly at Sue s last re mark But all the fellows thmk he sa swell guy He s outstandlng 1n foot ball track and everythlng Oh Jane bea sport DlCk sald he was a falr dancer and the boys thmk he s fine Just thmk It s an honor to go as lt costs so much Few glrls get there Another th1ng you d get another pro gram and Oh Sue you ought to be asales woman You re really very clever Anyway you ve sold me the ldea Tell Dlck I ll go but lf hesa flat tlre Dlck ll wanta start for MEXICO IH a rush Then came the blg nlght Glrls were talkmg IU hlgh pltched exclted volces Are the flowers In my ha1r stralghtl Where are my shoes? THF LIVE WIRE Jane was restlessly pacing the floor and Sue was calmly putting make up on when Buzz Buzz It was their ring' Sue ran to answer it Door call for Sue Wilkins and Jane Frost It s for us Jane Sue shouted getting into her wrap Then down three flights they went every step seeming a quarter of a mile but finally they got to the recep tlon room door There s stlll time to turn back was Jane s last thought but she walked determinedly in There was Dick and oh no that couldn t be It that was with him lt couldn t tance Dick introducing him and she caught the words Earnest Smith She felt her own lips mumble ln reply How do you do Mr Smith' Jane thought lf shed never fainted before she could do it now But soon they were out ln the air and she felt a little better Jane thought H may be a football hero a track man etc but he certalnlv is the homhest red headed short fat big mouthed piece of human flesh that Ive ever seen Her one consolation was maybe he can dance At last they reached the Gym Now to know the worst thought Jane Now they were 1n the dancehall dreamy muslc enveloping them Jane thinking how glad she was that she had come when Shall we dance er Miss Frost er Jane? Of course He put his arm about her and We're offl' was Janes p1t1ful thought Er Miss Frost er I may as well tell you I m not a very good dancer Hu ' thought Jane if I haven t already found that out but Oh how kind of vou Mr Smith I th nk you dance be au tl fu lly Ouch I beg your pardon er I guess I stepped on your foot Oh that was nothing sweetly someone must have pushed you But under her breath she was saying I knew it I knew it Oh Why dld I ever come?
