After the entertainment dancing and refreshments W'T5 enJ0Y9d- Early SPTiH8 saw us getting ready for our Junior play, 'Oh Professorn which was given Merch 28 and 29. It was of course a huge success and netted us quite a sum with which to give our Junior Prom. This was our next important undertaking and was given April 26. A banquet at which an Egyptian Motive was used, was followed by dancing at the loose Hell which was decorated to repre sent moonlight on the desert. The last week of school we were busy gathering flower with which to decorate for the class d'55 s baccalaureate and commencement exercises, Hsofors ue is the timber let us build-U With .this as our motto, the class of '56 embarked upon the lest voyage of our high school career. with M . Weller as adviser and M ldred Hutchcraft as president of the class, we looked forward to a very interesting year. Fall and winter months were spent in anticipation of the busy spring which was to follow. On April 5, we were entertained by the Juniors at e prom. Af ter a delicious banquet we danc d away the evening in a beautiful flower garden. In Nay, WHobgoblin House' a thrilling mystery play was presented by the class. To Mr. Waller, who very ably coached the play we owe its success. After this p oductian, events followed very quickly. The Sen lore picnic was held at Liberty Lake. This was a day spent in just playing and enjoying ourselves. On May 22, we entertained the faculty and student body for the last time at a novel bell, held in the gym. Baccalaureate was held lay 24, among a p ofusion of flowers. And now we return to the pre sent class dey. This evening members of our class predict the fut ure, and will our morals and characteristics to unsuspecting ju icrs. Uthers entertained us with musical selections. lay 29 will be commencement, the crowning glory of our High School life for which we have been preparing all these years. As we go forth to greater activities, greater usefulness, and to greater and higher glory, we,the class of nineteen-hundred and thirty-six, rest our last lingering glances on the halls where we spent so many busy, happy hours, with the hope that those who follow will enjoy themselves as much as we have. CLASS HISTORY The feu datidn and cornerstone of the illustrious class of 1956 was laid when a group of timid boys and girls entered Newport Grade School why beck in 1924 as first graders. Of that group we find seven in the present graduating class: Douglas McArthur, Mildred Hutchcreft,Berenice Evans, lille Tarbet, Charles Re1dt,Bob Berneek, and Alice Straight. Before we realized lt, eight whole years had slipped by and we were a class of twenty-five eighth graders gredut ing from Newport Grade School. At graduation exercises Willa Tarbet and Willis Holcomb were awarded the American Legion Metals for being the two outstanding members of the class. We had new passed one of the important milestones in our lives and were ready to enter New port High School as full fl dged-freshman. 'Will all freshman pres nt please rise and sing the High School song?n This was in 1982 and the first introduction of 56 green fresh to N.H.S. Although we were off to a very bed start indeed, but our capable class adviser a d class president, Miss Schultzzmd Jean Pearce, pulled us through successfully with a few candy sales and e pop corn sale to ou credit. At the latter we made a net profit of 124. Nevertheless, we had many good times thft year even lfthe up pereclassmen looked upon us as quite lowly creatures andlmmtzgreat deal of pleasure out of lettin us know it. The year ended with wthe annual High School picnic at Diamond Lake where a glorious day was spent in swimming, boating, hiking and playing baseball. September 1955 found us again entering Newport High. As green fresh? Never! we were now confident sophomores. With Berenice Evans as President and lr. Crosetto class advisor, we were ready to do big things, one of which was a weiner roast down by the river. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and looked forward to having many more good times together. In February of that year, two of our teachers were married, Ur. Crosetto, adviser of our class and Miss Annonen, adviser of the juniors. The two classes promptly get to gather and gave a party for the newlywcds and presented them with an electric toaster with the promise from them that any time we wanted to visit them we would receive upon request all the toast we could devour. Before we knew it the month of May had rolled around once more and we found ourselves looking forward to our ju ior year. Upperclassmenl Was it possible? Time certainly does fly. The fall and winter of that year were spent in getting class rings and having sales to raise extra funds for our treasury. In December we gave an all high school party, using Christmas as the motif for decorations. We shall never forget the hilarious style show in which the latest modes were modeled by boys of the class.
