'Oi' C57 Each year the thirteen-member Girls' League Council, composed of the elected officers and two repre- sentatives from each class, selected nine girls who had completed out- standing Work in league and school activities. Nominations were given to council members or originated Within the group. Each month a girl received the Girl of the Month pin from her predecessor and a red rose as she was introduced at the monthly League meeting. From these nine candidates the Girl of the Year was selected by a secret ballot cast by all League members. ii Although a new student at Newport, Sue LeSueur rapidly became a part of the student body through her willing ' A t cooperation and interest in student affairs. Her com- mendable leadership as Girls' League President plus her friendliness and ready smile won her this honor. September's Colleen Currin proved a willing and cooperative worker as well as a class leader. I-if February honored talented Virginia Gesik, the '56 Anchor editor. Q 1.31-f Ianet Wolf, Ianuary's girl, edited the Harbor Light and, as chairman, direct- ed the Snowflake Swirl,

During regular monthly meetings, the League Council made plans tor the Girls' League Assembly which met later in the month. Each month the Council picked the Girl-of-the-Month and elected the speaker for the next assembly meeting. In December plans were made for the Christmas Formal. Twirp Week and Honor Day came in the spring. Advising the Girls' League Council and organization was Faculty Advisor, Miss Lambert.
