za,..u... PRINCIPAIQS MESSAGE ORIZONS are mystical places. Because one never knows what is just beyond, they have always symbolized the allure of the unknown, the glamour of adventure and romance .... Down through the ages man has invented many devices such as the telescope, the microscope and the aeroplane which have assisted in extending the realm of the known and in compelling the unknown to recede. Nevertheless, beckoning hori- zons continue to exist, tempting each new generation to venture forth .... I sincerely hope that the Newport Harbor Union High School is providing all of you with new instruments in the form of ethical character, good citizenship, and sound judgment with which to navigate your course safely to your goal in the future. This year's Board consisted of Mr. Dodge and Mr. Mellott from Costa Mesa, Mr. Stowell from Corona del Mar, Mr. Beek from Balboa, and Mr. Fitzpatrick from Newport .... Not only has the Board of Trustees made possible in the past years, the tennis court, agricul- tural roorn, mechanical drawing room and other projects, but they have also made made possible the beautiful mosaics that are seen in the school patio which have been completed this year .... The students wish to thank the Board of Trustees for their loyal sup- port in school affairs and their help in other various activities.

GREETING- S THE Class of 1938 bids farewell to Newport Harbor and the distant horizon beckons you onward it is my wish that you may carry on with you into your future the ideals and traditions learned at Harbor .... The future may be truly your own, but may it be the type that will bring you and your school honor and glory .... As greater things guide you onward I salute you and hope that you continue to grow and develop with your future. Vice-Principal ENVISIONMENT OULD WE but look ahead and see what lies beyond the hori- zon, how much easier it would be for us to make our plans. You of the class of 1938 would have been able to accurately chart your course through Harbor. The way ahead of you now would be clear sailing but not very exciting .... As it is, you must unfurl your sails and start out to explore for yourself the uncharted seas beyond the horizon. Your skill as a navigator will determine how far you'll be able to go. Here at Harbor you have had an opportunity to gather together a few instruments that will help you ....
