Six years later CorporalMcGaff of the 75151, Tank Battalion, ISI. Armored Division, was killed in action in the vicinity of Mignano, Italy. In memory of their son and brother, the McGaffFamily has established at New- port Catholic the WALTER MCGAFF ME- MORIAL TROPHY, This award is given the senior who, on the decision of the faculty, is outstanding in gentlemanliness, studies, and athletics. Walter, a true Thoroughbred, never forgot NewportCatholic nor did his inter- est in its future ever lag, as is evidenced by the excerpts from his letters which ap- pear on this page. These were addressed to Reverend Leo G. Kampsen, one of his former teachers and friends at Newport Catholic.
