NEWPORT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL NEWPORT, KENTUCKY My dear Seniors: Surely the theme of this year's THOROUGHBRED recalls days of a few years ago when your big pastime was playing games with the fellows in your neighborhood. One game which you must have played was follow the leader. I am sure that you can remember how you tried to out-do one an- other by following the leader as closely as possible in your great deeds of daring, jumping across a wide ditch, catapulting down a steep slope, or walking on top ofahigh board fence. These days are pastg all that remains is the memory. Another phase in your life, your high school days, is about to end. For the last four years you have been learning the rules of a new game, the game of life. During this time you have had the help and guidance of your Parents and Teachers. Theyhave given you the best in them to prepare you for life. This game of life is nothing else than another game of follow the leader. This time, however, the Leader is no human beingg it is Christ. The closer you stay to Him, the better are your chances of getting past the dangers and pitfalls of life. As a boy your bigboast was that you would do everything as well as the leader. Now as you enter manhood, may you ever strive to imitate the Leader of us all ..... Christ. We want to congratulate you on your coming graduation. Your Parents and Teachers have made untold sacrifices for you. This debt you can fully repay, but you can repay this debt in part by living as Catholic gentle- men. . Follow the Leader, Boys, and pass on to the next generation the bless- ings of a Catholic education. In this way your life will be a success be- cause you will fulfill the purpose of your existence and the purpose of Catholic education namely, the salvation of your soul. Sincerely yours, Reverend John V. I-Iegenauer Principal Class of 1951 Newport Catholic High School Newport, Kentucky
